Classical literary study is an indispensable part of linguistic studies, and has much impact on it. Likewise, studying Chaghatay Uyghur manuscripts that have more than 600 years of history has importance that cannot be ignored.Chaghatay Uyghur language is a language serving as a link between the past and future of Uyghur language. It is formed and developed based on Old Uyghur, at the same time; it also borrowed a large number of elements from Arabic and Persian, and became a unique language. It is the predecessor of modem Uyghur language. Among Uyghur classic literatures, Chaghatay Uyghur classic literature takes up the largest amount, which includes fields such as literature, history, philosophy, religion, art, medicine, sanitation, astronomy, folklore and legislation and so on. These manuscripts can be important materials when studying the history, astronomy and social culture of Uyghur. It is a well-known fact that poetry had been dominating the literary history of Chaghatay Uyghur language. The manuscript I studied is a piece of poetry written in Chaghatay Uyghur language——<poetry anthology of Zuhuri>, which is also called 《Divan-1 zuhun》. The language of the manuscript belongs manuscript was written in the beginning of the 19th century. Under the guidance of Xinjiang Autonomous Region’s Classic Literature Committee, researcher Kurban-Barat became the first person who organized and published the manuscript. With many endeavors, the first edition was published in September, 1995, in which modern Uyghur transcription, translation, annotations and the photocopy of the original manuscript were given. The author of the manuscript has to be unveiled before carrying on any study on it. In relation to this, two points of view prevail among the Uyghur literary circles. Some insist that the author was Mirza zuhundin, who was born approximately in 1780 in Turpan, and was a descendant of Yimin Wang, the emperor of Hami. Later he became the staff officer, the highest official title which was only given to Han Chinese officials, and later was dispatched to Kashkar as Hakimbeg. He had created many works of poetry under the alias of zuhuri. During the time, he made frequent contact with local people to understand their concerns, and tried to become an honest official and bring benefits to people. His contribution to the people is more that his literary success. Some others think that zuhuri Hakimbeg (The head of a country) was not the original author of this collection, and mirza-Zuhuridin who lived a century ago, was the original author.I will carry on my study based on the original manuscript stored in the museum of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and the printed Uyghur edition of 《poetry anthology of Zuhuri》. The names of places and people, social events and myths and legends are epitomes of the society at that time. Therefore, 《Divan-i zuhuri》 provides rare materials for studying the history and culture of Chaghatay Uyghur language period. In addition to studying the manuscript, I will analyze the author’s literary and philosophical thoughts, and display the features of writers’ prose at that time. This also benefits Uyghur classic literature study greatly. This dissertation consists of four parts, which are introduction, the main body, conclusion and appendix. A brief account of the life of the author, the general situation of the manuscript and research situation will be given in Introduction part. Then research significance of 《Divan-1 zuhuri》 will be explained. The main body includes the second and third chapters, and is the major part of the dissertation. In this part, I will type out the original manuscript according to the philological rules, transliterate the text according to exclusive symbols in Chaghatay Uyghur language, and will give Chinese translation and annotations. In conclusion, discussions on the content and literary characteristics of 《Divan-i zuhuri》 will be given, along with some problems that are yet to be solved. Appendix mainly consists of bibliographical index, a mini-dictionary and the photocopy of the original manuscript.
