My thesis mainly studies the formation of performance factors in the paintings of Dutch artist, Vincent Willem van Gogh. In other words, it will introduce the important process that influences the formation of painter’s performance factors, analyze the origin of his paintings’ performance trend and analyze the performance factors in his paintings. In the meanwhile, I will give a broad outline of his painting performance factors in different periods and analyze the inner meaning that van Gogh wanted to express in his paintings. As a famous painter of post-impressionism, compared to Gauguin who pursues primitive world and Cezanne who regards paintings’ formation as main factor of creation, van Gogh mainly expresses his feeling in paintings. We have lots of discussion about van Gogh. However, how does his painting language, including his brushwork, color and image composition, showcase his feeling form? What types can his feeling can be classified into? How do these feelings be expressed, such as anxiety, joviality, restlessness and indignation? Even though those themes have been little discussed, there is no one having a deep study on those. Therefore, I attempt to systematically study how does van Gogh use his painting form like brushwork and color to express his feelings?...
