The Use Of Chinese Elements In Fashion Photography

The Chinese culture has stepped into a transition period with a strong vitality since the rapid development of China’s political and economic reform in 1990. In this connection, the"Chinese elements", well-known as the Chinese characterized symbol, was not just applied into varies sections of the Chinese community, but gained lots of attention across the world. As one of the fastest economic growth developing countries, how to be committed to the Chinese culture itself with diversity backgrounds under the global competition is one of the subjects that we have to remain to study.As part of the daily life, the Fashion photography really benefits the businesses, leading to a demand growth in this field. As the most favorite one of the photographers, the Chinese element is applied to indicate the social positions, such as the traditional textures and symbols etc.. However, what confusing the photographers is how to use the Chinese element into their works. The images produced by photographers will surely spread into social-wide while it meets the business demands; therefore, fashion photography mostly carries the culture transmission task rather than its commercial missions. China, as one of the biggest fashion and luxury consumption market in the international community, it is imperative to take the time-changing rules and fight forward in the global fashion torrent. Given to this, the Chinese photographers are active in exploring new ways to build their experiences and recognition of art, fashion, society development and medium into photographing; and they present the image of Chinese culture to world from domestic elements, symbol, medium, and so on. By introducing the Chinese culture form aspect of photographing, this article tries to go deep to discuss the relationship between Chinese culture and photographing starting from the usage and development of Chinese elements in this vocation.Taking the works from 1999 to 2008 of Fenghai-a Chinese famous photographer as an example, this paper explains his recognition and applying of Chinese elements in a micro level according to the development of his career. Base on this, the passage goes further to dig the Chinese element appliance in photographing in order to discuss its meanings in the social and cultural background. The writer believes that the best way to keep its seat in the world fashion photograph class is to take the Chinese element as a strategy and a way by studying our traditional heritages and passing on the essences in the international rapid development landscape.
