David Rachel 's Fashion Photography Study

As the famous American fashion photographer, David LaChapelle’s works have a strong characteristic; under the eccentric and humour, his works show up a strong social and political consciousness. David LaChapelle is good at putting the most popular and commercial ’symbol’ under his lens, and reasonably applying the magnificent colour and dramatic narrative into photography, it always has an irresistible visual tension, either in his portraits of celebrities or pure art photography; the maverick personality let him to create one legend after another in the fiercely competitive modern photography industry.The first chapter of this paper will reveal the causes of David LaChapelle’s work style; the second chapter will discuss his unique portrait photography of celebrities from the ’abnormal’ performance of the star in his camera and the metaphor of celebrity worship phenomenon in his works respectively; the third chapter will discuss how the theme and attitude of art history is cleverly reflected in David’s photography; the fourth part will expound the rethinking of his photography. The whole paper will analyse David LaChapelle’s photography from above four parts and will summarize the influence and revelation of his characteristics of photography style on our future photographic creation.
