The role of “servants”, the enduring supporting role on the stage, has a history of more than 2000 years emerged decades after the appearance of western drama.The paper introduces the transitions of the role “servants” throughout vital periods of history during the Europe drama’s development course, analyses and summarizes some of the most influenced “servants” in that course. The paper also discuses the function、the role image、the reason for the change of servants’ positions on the stage based on the social background and the humanity evolution in Europe. It reveals the theoretical study on the human-centeredness and human nature behind the transition of the role images of “servants” in different eras’ artworks.The report is divided into three parts: firstly, analyzing the servant image of representative work in European drama history at different periods; secondly, justifying changes of the servant image’s functions in drama by discussing the social, historical and cultural background in different times and changes of drama ideological trend; lastly, evaluating changes of servant image and its stage location with the revolution of the society, history and culture.
