This thesis aims at study the state of ’Huanghan’ in imagery creation of Chinese landscape paitings. Firstly, through collecting and analysing works with a characteristic of ’Huanghan’ and relative remark literatures in all ages, the thesis concludes that these painting own aesthetic styles of quietly, lonely, open and eternity. Then the thesis analyses the reason of why so many famous Chinese landscape painters were interested in going after the state of ’Huanghan’. For one reason, it satisfied their psychological needs of pursuing states of empty, deep, remote and cold in Tao and Zen. For another, it provided an ideal home for their soul. And it is a reflection of’Confucius landscape’ and ’Unification of Mind and Material’ in Confucianism. Finally, this thesis analyse and compare influence between painting and poetry with theme of’Huanghan’.
