From The Middle Ages Into The "contemporary"

Ernst Balarch is one of the most representative expressionists,this paper try to give us a new point to comprehend Barlach’s sculpture different from before by analyzing the influence of the Medieval Gothic architecture and sculpture on Barlach’s arts combining with the material he used and realistic sculpture education from academy he accepted. I want to discuss how he enter into contemporary art by inheriting the Medieval tradition of Germany. Finally,I hope it will provide reference for our exploration of realistic sculpture language in contemporary through upwards research.
