Over the past 10 years, the methods to create 3D animation or the performance of 3D animation have been greatly enriched along with the development of computer animation technology. The technique of three-dimensional computer animation also greatly improves the efficiency of making animated films. With the development of 3D technology,3D animation film has been eye-catching and gradually accepted by the public. Meanwhile, it has also been recognized by the commercial market of animation. Its innovation, visual effects and influence in traditional animation reach a new level in 2005, which means the climax of the development of three-dimensional computer animation film has quietly come in the global commercialization.In traditional animation, a classic role modelling is the soul of an animated film. A good role modelling is the foundation of a successful animated film. With the improvement of the animation industry, the importance of animation role modelling gradually reaches to a new height. The unique style of animation character not only has a higher artistic value, but also contains endless market potential and commercial profit. It enlarges the post commercial capability of animation films. Similarly, the role modelling of 3D animation is also a key to the success of a 3D computer animation. Along with the technical progress of three-dimensional computer animation, its performance is more and more realistic. The development of animation industry in western countries is relatively mature in both theory and the design of role modeling campared with domestic traditional animation and 3D computer animation. What is more, its development of 3D animation film and peripheral products have achieved a great success. However, the case in Chinese animation industry is quite complicated no matter in its animation theory or animation products. Therefore, we are required to seek the balance between the creation and commercial operation of three-dimension as well as explore more sufficient and effective ways or methods from the aspects of character design, movement and facial expression of three-dimension animation.The thesis starts with the character of role modelling of 3D animation and then compares the difference between the design of 2D animation role modelling and 3D animation role modelling aiming to gain the requirements and methods in the design thinking and technology. Moreover, through summarizing its regularity and methods,the relevant theory and modelling design are also generalized. The purpose of the thesis is to further perfect the related theory in designing role modelling in domestic 3D animation.
