A Study Of Contemporary Female Images In The New Century Novels

China’s village is in a time of great transition, and along with the modernization of the country, it shows thatthe traditional villages has gradually disappeared. Under this context, rural women are facing great changes in both lifestyle and spiritual existence. Meanwhile, literature is bound to revert its focus to this circumstance and attempt to describe it. Therefore, how to present the image of rural women in the social transformation has become an important issue. Regarding the rural female image in novels of the new century as a research object, this paper tries to explore howrural female image in the literature is presented.Through this study, this paper will summarize and evaluatethe changes and innovationof rural women image in literature. And then from this aspect, it will show the developing trend of rural novels.First of all, the current rural female image shows multiple symbiotic characteristics of the protector, fighter and receiver of the traditional culture. The fates of women and their life choices reflect the co-existingtendency of rural places in the transition period, modernand post-modern civilization. Secondly, the formation of this phenomenon is not only because the changes in the author’s life bring them new experience, but also because the diverse creating space provides them various positions and perspectives. On the one hand, the transformation of rural society has not yet been completed, and the unsettled problems in the future blueprint of the country cause the economic, political and cultural temporarily disordered. Due to the awkward reality, the rural women under writers always face spiritual troubles. On the other hand, the relatively free mind also makes the writer show the rural women in their books from different positions and perspectives. Finally, in general, the image of rural women in the new century is still in the exploratory stage. It has a certain development and transformation based on the theory of traditional rural novels. Firstly, the undefined value in transition makes rural women have multidimensional extension on the original basis. Secondly, the literature creation emphasizes on the self-development of women in the transition period, which to a certain extent, corrects the previous female image. Thirdly, aesthetic style of traditional vernacular novels, such as peace, calmness and fluency, has been replaced by mess, fragment and common. Generally speaking, the current rural novels have some progress to some extent, especially in describing the sense of loss and confusion of the rural women. However, when dealing with the new rural material, it is inevitable that some writers will bring flaws to the work due to lack of experience. Overall, the diversity of rural women image reflects the writers’ multiple consideration of the transition of rural areas, which represents the affection and worries of those writers who are full of the social sense of responsibility, of the fading countryside.
