On The Newity And Limitations Of Zhang Zhiping 's Novels

Ziping Zhang is a person that could not be ignored when we study thenew literature(promoted by the May forth Movement in 1919). He is the founder of Creation Society, one of the important new literature associations in China, and he created the first full-length novel “Fossil of Shock Stage” in the history of modern literature in China. However, in the middle and later periods of creation, due to partial opinions, cultural traitor identity and complicated history reasons, he gradually receded from the public arena. Regardless of moral judgments and political views, there is no doubt that Ziping Zhang is an assignable writer in the history of modern literature in China. This article, taking his novel as a research object, generally analyzes his creation condition of novel under the background of literature and society at that time, and then returns to the text to discover profound value and connotation from the work itself.This article is divided into fourchapters except introduction and conclusion. Chapter one introduces the lifetime of Ziping Zhang and his literary creation process. Firstly, it reviews his creation process through earlier stage, middle stage, and later stage, then illustrates the unique features of every stage. Chapter two analyzes the forming reasons of features in the novel, including his lifetime, social background in the period of the May forth Movement and the influence from foreign thoughts. Chapter three and chapter four seperately discuss new different characteristics and limitations through theme content, art form and other textual features. On the basis, the article discusses the significance of the novel and the thinking to future generations, presenting a real and full image of modern literary writer.
