The pinnacle of Lao She’s drama after the founding of New China, Teahouse, depicts the changes of China and the fickleness of the world for nearly half a century incisively and vividly with only 30,000 words. Teahouse is a success with both necessity factors and accidental factors, whose creative mechanism has historical complexity. Lao She came back from the United States in 1949; he created a large number of works praising the new China out of the hopes and vision for HER. But he is never satisfied with those works and often lives in the distress of failure. In 1956, the “Double Hundred “Policy was put forward, and he began to write the things and people for which he was familiar with. On the basis of the Qin three brothers, Teahouse was created in a complex background and the author adheres to the rule of literary creation. It is Lao She’s perseverance to his own literary viewpoints even under tense political situation that made the unique charm of the Teahouse retained and we have a chance to see a modern classic in the history of China.Teahouse breaks through the political "integration" mode of drama, which coincides with the directors, actors and the audience’s desire for new theatrical forms. Teahouse was praised; however, it is also accompanied by a series of negation and criticisms at the same time. In the spirit of persistence and pursuit of art, under intense political pressure, Beijing People’s Art Theater turned it into a classic masterpieces whose influence to China last for more than half a century. Since the New era, Teahouse once performance in Western Europe, Japan, Singapore and other places, praised by foreign media as the "miracle" of eastern stage, thus laid a landmark status in the history of Chinese modern drama. The theme of Teahouse is complex. On the surface, Teahouse, by exposing the darkness and corruption of the old society, set off the beauty of new society, achieving the goal of "killing three times". In effect, the darkness and decay of old days have inseparable relationship with its authoritarian system, and also have a direct relationship with its national quality which is decayed and ignorant. By revealing the national character under the authoritarian regime, Lao she found out the root cause of the dark and decadent society. The national character embodies the national culture itself, by revealing which, the author reached the purpose of criticizing the traditional culture.
