Liang Shuming is a China’s latter day and famous ideologist. He devoted himself to the revival of Chinese traditional culture, and the combination of western culture. His critical summarizing and inheriting idealist philosophy has reestablished and pushed forward Chinese new Confucian system. He insisted village reconstruction played the same role as the revival of Chinese traditional culture in rescuing China from decay. The core of this research is to re-valuate how essential the campaign of village reconstruction in his philosophy system. He is not only a specialist of “agriculture、countryside and farmer”, but also an ideologist of reestablishment of Chinese new Confucian system. His village reconstruction theory covers not only philosophy, economy and sociology, but also the practice of moral. The destination of a philosopher is to put his theory into practice. Ultimately, Liang Shuming failed to achieve the goal of this campaign due to some negative factors such as war and politics. It is important to reveal the deepest reason of the failure rather than focus on the result of this campaign. This campaign is vital because of these two aspects as below. First of all, this campaign is not only an attempt of practice but also the benchmark of the development of Chinese new Confucian. Secondly, this campaign illuminates new village reconstruction including elements of political, economical and culture. Liang Shuming has done whatever it takes to the revival of traditional Chinese culture, even at the cost of his life. Even though the campaign failed to reach the aim, his spirit encourages the continuity of village reconstruction and discovery of Chinese traditional culture.
