This thesis studies death in Dubliners. In James Joyce’s Dubliners, death goes through the whole collection and is reflected in many aspects, which embodies Joyce’s understanding of death. This thesis analyzes physical death first, and further analyzes metaphorical death reflected in Dubliners, and then gives a further interpretation of death in the book. Physical death is reflected in two aspects:the death of people and the death of objects. Metaphorical death is reflected in three aspects:music imagery, the image of light and snow. Life is the existence towards death, and meanwhile, people can try hard to live by confronting death. With the two points, this thesis further interprets death in Dubliners.Researchers have mentioned death in Dubliners, but few give any deep and comprehensive interpretation. To some degree, this thesis enriches the scholarship about Dubliners and even Joyce. |
