Exploring The Chongming Soil

Chongminghomespun, originated in A.D. 1300s( at the transition from Yuan Dynasty to Ming Dynasty), flourished in the 1400s(Mid-Ming Dynasty)and diminished in the 1980’s, has a long history of over 500 years and was for a long time the economic pillar of the Chongming Island. It had a glorious past and formed a part of the Chongmingculture. The dissertation,based on field research, traced the history of homespun, analyzed and categorized its designs and patterns. Though this dissertation the author hopes that more people come to know and appreciate the charm of Chongming homespun and elaborate such charm in other artistic works.
