| As one of the most influential and pioneer directors in the modern theater, Meng Jinghui’s works have been controversial due to the characteristic of strongly advanced and experimental. Meng Jinghui had directed almost 40 dramas since from 1990, which opened up new possibilities for Chinese modern theater reply on his unique creativity and diversified artistic style. Nowadays, more audiences are attracted by his works, which makes it possible to hold thousands of tours, and some of the tours have made the wonders, which were called as’box-office myth’. What’s more, Meng Jinghui’s works are considered as a sort of fashion and pursuit among those young audiences. The acceptance of his pioneer dramas is becoming an impressive cultural phenomenon for the time being.This paper mainly investigates Meng Jinghui’s pioneer dramas from the receiving part, in terms of the acceptance of trajectory and condition. Also, in order to summarize the lessons and explore the reception regulations, some analysis would be made according to the developing features and reception style.The writer classified Meng Jinghui’s dramas into three stages through analyzing the creation course. The first chapter mainly describes the accepted situation of Meng’s works from 1990 to 1997.In this chapter, Meng advocated to break from the drama tradition, which made the audience stand against his works. Therefore, the works are not accepted by the public, which formed the exploration stage. This chapter mainly inspects the accepted situation of the Theater of the Absurd and his masterpiece Si Fan, as well as I love x x x which hasn’t been performed in public. In the second chapter, it mainly discusses Meng’s dramas that were published from 1998 to 2002. Meng started making some transitions and later on the concept of’people’s drama’ was presented, which aims to communicate with more people. What’s more, Meng attempted to find a new method to develop drama by applying the commercialization inside, which generated the audience from minority to more people, and also initiated the controversy about "pioneer" and "false pioneer". In order to analyze the structure of accepted condition of Meng’s dramas, two phenomenal works, with the name of the accidental death of an anarchist and Rhinoceros in love, are selected to be studied. The third chapter mainly discusses Meng’s dramas from 2003 to 2015, when his works spark a diversification, which includes three lines of poetry, society and anti-mainstream in parallel. Some dramas are experimental which return to pioneer, some are commercial which contend against the mainstream and the others are criticizing social reality. Therefore, the reception of this period is more diversification and the coverage of audiences is more extensive. In this period, the new feature of Meng’s works is to attract people’s attention, expand its influence and interact with audience with the help of internet media. Therefore, this chapter would study three independent representative cases Liebe ist kaelter als der tod’〠Two dog’sã€Amber, and look at them from the viewpoint of internet, which aims to rethink the accepted situation of Meng’s works in the exploration period. |
