A Study On The Dilemma Of Inheritance Of Traditional Sports Representatives Of Minority Nationalities In Yunnan Province

As a type of intangible cultural heritage, traditional sports activities of ethnical minorities is an important part of ethnical minority culture. To fully promote traditional sports activities of ethnical minorities will facilitate the process of enhancing equity and cohesion between nationalities, and it is also necessary for all nationalities to improve their physical fitness and spread their own culture. Yunnan is home to various ethnical minorities. Therefore, with abundant nationality resources, Yunnan has become a fascinating arena for a number of ethnical sports activities where a large portion of ethnical minority population participates in such activities. However, there are only five provincial representative inheritors for ethnical sports(blowgun, whipping gyro, Dudada, Yi-style wrestling, etc.), which indicates there are still many obstacles impeding the development of ethnical sports activities.Using several research methods including documentary research method, questionnaire survey method, expert interview, comparative analysis, mathematical statistics, this paper surveys Mu Tianguang, the representative inheritor of whipping gyro from Shuangbai County, Chuxiong, Pu Jinlinag, the representative inheritor of Yi-style wrestling from Yuanmou County, Chuxiong, Sha Shaoxiang, the representative inheritor of whipping gyro from Shuangjiang County, Lincang, Hu Yuxiu, the representative inheritor of Dudada from Longling County, Baoshan, Luo Hongming, the representative inheritor of blowgun from Malipo County, Wenshan, and officials and experts corresponding authorities and departments, with hope to investigate the current status of ethnical sports in Yunnan, find out where the problems is and come up with solutions.The findings show that despite of a large number of participators, ethnical sports in Yunnan still lacks decent promotion and publicity; a lot of participators are not aware enough of what they have been doing for years; some ethnical sports activities lack relevant training and coaching resulting in a lack of back-up athletes; the way of competition of some ethnical sports is too simply to attract eyes; there are no relevant ethnical sports education in any school in many areas in Yunnan.According to the findings, this paper makes a few suggestions: to promote ethnical sports activities in multiple channel; to conduct more research on ethnical sports from the perspective of health; to improve the management in corresponding authorities so as to develop ethnical sports in a systematical and standardized way; to develop more back-up athletes or participators, and come up with games for different ages; to increase the interestingness of ethnical sports(safety guaranteed), and introduce ethnical sports into local campus.
