Lu Qiao, whose autonym is Nelson Ikon Wu(1919—2002), is a famous Chinese writer and scholar. His works own many readers in Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas areas. For Lu Qiao, Chinese traditional culture is not only a faith of practice and life, but also a literary creation and cultural character after the internalization. Through investigating Lu Qiao’s reading activities and analyzing his prose works, this thesis looks for the influence of traditional culture on his thought and creation. The paper, roughly taking Lu Qiao’s thought development from “Taoistic foundation” to “Confucian path” as a clue, mainly regarding the learning period and the time of completing the work Song Never to End(Weiyang ge)(1945), Son of Man(Ren zi)(1974),City and home(Shi chan ju)(1998) as a basis, divided his life into four stages, and each stage corresponds to one section.This thesis is divided into introduction, four chapters of main text and conclusion, and there are a total of six parts.Introduction: Centering on the theme of the relations between Lu Qiao and traditional culture, it briefly introduced the paper’s research status, research ideas and innovations.Chapter One Traditional culture and Lu Qiao’s origin of thoughts: It investigated the formation of Confucianism thought mechanism during Lu Qian’s learning period.Chapter Two Taking traditional culture as the ideal and the transformation of life attitude: During the youth period, Lu Qiao established the relationship with traditional culture in the environment of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he regarded positive attitude and becoming better and better day by day as his ideal, and he implied philosophical concepts in Weiyang ge, which shows his affirmation for respecting teachers and emphasizing morality and other good qualities in the traditional culture.Chapter Three Modern writing taking traditional culture as creating resources: In middle-age period, Lu Qiao implied the thoughts benefited from the traditional culture in fables. On the one hand, in terms of content, technique and genre, he made the past serve the present and continuously made innovations; on the other hand, he reconciled the Chinese traditional culture and foreign culture, and at the same time, he pursued for the growth and eternity of the human nature.Chapter Four in Taking traditional culture as the life foundation and life spirit: During this period, Lu Qiao focused on thinking about the relationship between people in the traditional culture, further observed the social environment. He made lectures both at home and abroad for many times so as to promote Chinese traditional culture.Conclusion: A brief pointed out the inadequacy of the value of the research.This thesis tried to find more ignored information through empirical investigation, improve research results from text to text in the past, and provide new references for contemporary Chinese literature to inherit and develop traditional culture.
