An Analysis Of The Relationship Between The International Criminal Court And The UN Security Council

As the international institutions to maintain the peace and security of our world, theSecurity Council and the International Criminal Court were founded with a commonpurpose. Although the Security Council and the International Criminal Court areindependent agencies, the cooperation is very necessary in the daily work. In thebeginning, the Security Council didn’t accept the legal status of the InternationalCriminal Court, but now, there are two situations were presented to the InternationalCriminal Court, all suggest that the attitude of the Security Council has changed, theCouncil gradually accept the Court. The Security Council is basis on the Charter, andthe International Criminal Court is basis on the Rome Statute, three of the fivepermanent members of the Security Council still haven’t joined the Rome Statute fordifferent reasons. The question of the International Criminal Court is accompaniedwith its growth. The two situations implied that their cooperation is not smooth. Thisarticle will mainly discuss the world’s attitude, especially the Security Council’sattitude towards the court, analysis the presented situations and discuss how topromote the further cooperation between the Court and the Council.
