The Dispute Over Sea Power In History And Its Enlightenment

This thesis seeks to explore the sea power issues under the Sino-US relations, onthe basis of the study of the sea power disputes between Britain and America, Britainand Germany, Japan and America and the analysis of relations of rising sea powernations and the established ones. This paper would make a contribution to thedevelopment of China’s sea power, especially in how to manage relations withAmerica’s sea power in order to avert tensions at sea and safeguard China’ssovereignty and national interests.There are three parts in this thesis. In the first chapter, it provides the reader witha map to the sea power theory, summarizing the main ideas and reviews in this field.Chapter2focuses on the sea power disputes between Britain and America, Britain andGermany, Japan and America and lessons learnt from. And the paper concludes inchapter3with an analysis of the sea power issues under the Sino-US relations.
