In the U. S. A, mass media has long been well-regarded as the "Fourth Power",carrying and spreading public opinion meanwhile supervising the administration.However, it is this power branch that is in short of tangible institutions, violentregimes and the protection from real power, it is this power that is at the margin ofpolitical agenda. Meanwhile, what the mass media has always been monitoring, thepresident, government elites, military elites or company elites is not at a passiveposition to respond mass media but actively casting influence over them. Based on thetheory of Power Elites, this dissertation combines the concepts of president,government elites, military elites and company elites, and tries to explore the motives,organizations, strategies that these power elites adopted to influence mass media.Combined with updated cases of Obama administration, this dissertation aims to makeit clear the relation between power elites and mass media, thus deepening theunderstanding of the American Democratic system as well as its actual functioning. |
