The Rationality Of Schumpeter’s Theory Of Elite Democracy

Schumpeter in "Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy" puts forward "Democracyis a kind of method of" point of view, selection and authorized government believedemocracy is a kind of mechanism, a leader program arrangement. Under thismechanism, the political elites by competitive votes for decision-making in the hands ofthe people, the role of ordinary people are no longer decided to specific social andpolitical problem, but only can choose who to make decisions. As an economist,Schumpeter recognition, introducing market mechanism into democracy theory believethat democracy is a kind of market mechanism, the political elite is "entrepreneurs",responsible for the production of "political products" for the political market demand,and the general public is responsible for consumption "political" products in the marketof consumers. Traditional classical education democratic theorists think that democracycitizens and lofty moral goal, to promote the development of the citizens and elitedemocracy theorists from the empirical perspective, based on the investigation to thepolitical system and reality, the democratic political reality, abandon the traditionalclassical theory of democracy with all sorts of expectation and functions, only will bequalified as a way to democracy.
