The rightward shift of Japanese politics has always been aheated issue in the academic field. Most researches focus onhistorical background, economical trend and international politics, which seldom unearth its root. In my paper, I attempt to analyze thedevelopment of Japanese political rightward shift in the perspectiveof political culture. Political culture not only has power over theindividual political behavior, but also has influence on thedevelopment of a country. It is a test of the academic theory and aninnovation of methodologies. My paper consists of four parts.Part I, Introduction. First I review the recent relative literature ofthe issue, then explain the meaning of the issue, finally I make adefinition of the Political rightward shift and Political Culture.Political Culture in a narrow sense denote the texture includingethical psychology and religious faith and values patterns of a nation.Part II, I attempt to discover the reasons for the Yasukuni Shrineproblem from the society and government levels. On the society level,Japanese civilian believe in Shintoism, which functions as mentalsupport and also plays a role in the society integrity. And the shrine isa place where religious reliefs are relieved through the worshipceremony. On the government level, four reasons of Japaneseright-wing political forces visit to the Shrine are listed as follows: thelong existence of the worship politics, the consensus to the Emperorcountry, the narrow nationalism and the influence of shame culture.Part III, Japan’s strive for a politics power are analyzed from the political cultural dimension. Japan attempts to get rid of itsabnormal-state position by amending the constitution, enlarging thearmy, and biding for permanent seat, eventually making itself amilitary and political power. Firstly, the island’s nature and humanenvironment has gave birth to Japan’s nationalism. Secondly, besidesthe Japan emperor, a powerful country is supposed to guaranteeJapanese people. Thirdly, bushido has a deep influence on Japansociety. The long practice of martial honor induces Japanese toworship weapons and military power unconsciously, which accountsfor the birth of Japan’s militarism.Part IV, Conclusion and inspiration. German and Japan havedifferent political cultures. The two country have acted differently inreflection, apologies and compensation of the war, thus going on twodifferent ways of development. Japan government should learn fromGerman and face its history and introspect on the war. Japan shoulddo with wholeheartedness in order to get forgiveness and respectfrom the world. It is obvious that the fiercer rightward political shiftwill eventually lead Japan to a wrong way. And the only right way forJapan is to build a good-neighborly with its neighbors and change toa peaceful development.
