Sino-Japanese relations, which used to be depicted as close neighbours separated by only a strip of water, has fallen into dire straits nowadays caused by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's Yasukuni Shrine visits. Junichiro Koizumi has paid five visits since he took power in 2001, regardless of the strong protest from peoples at home and abroad. As a result, his behaviour has hurt the victims deeply. Meanwhile, Japan's diplomacy has also been in a diffficult situation. However, Junichiro Koizumi is still determined to visit Yasukuni Shrine continually. Therefore, we need to find out his motive for the visits.Yasukuni Shrine, which is considered as spiritual pillar of Japanese militarism, used to be the weapon of aggression, is the symbol of some Rightists'denying Japan's history of that period and the tool of some politicians'inciting Neo-nationalism today. What is more, the shrine honors Class-A war criminals whose hands were blotted with blood of people of China and other Asian countries that had suffered from Japanese military invasions. Prime Minister's shrine visits are not common people's behaviour, but political actions. Junichiro Koizumi's performance represents Japan's attitude to history of aggression. The writer is going to analyse Junichiro Koizumi's motive from the view of political culture, pointing out his real purpose is to arouse Japanese people's consciousness of national identity by means of Mikado considered as Japan's political cultural core to contribute to his political goal in the end.
