The Translation Of Marxist Terms In Japanese Channels And The Early Spread And Influence In China

In China the early main channels of the spread of Marxism were Japan, Russia and Europe. Before "May4th", Chinese accepted the theories almost from Japan. While in Japan it was also as the "second hand"---the Japanese moved it from Europe. So the Marxism introduced to China by early foreign students and relevant scholars was not the original ecological theory. It had been recreated by Japanese and mixed the "Chinese style" which was adapted to politics by Chinese.The term of Marxism is the enrichment of its theory. So if we leave the basic terms, we can’t even correctly think Marxism. Due to the influence of the personal knowledge, experience and age background, Japanese early Marxists introduced European socialist ideological trend, including Marxism unavoidably with some personal subjective factors. So when the early Japanese Marxist translated its terms, such as emphasis on free translation, avoiding transliteration, absorption of Chinese books and Buddhist scriptures, it was mainly manifested a strong "Japan color". The effect of the characteristics had two-side. On one hand, it provided favorable conditions for the early Chinese intellectuals to accept and spread Marxism,which had a huge impact on China’s new-democratic revolution. But on the other hand, it also ran into trouble. Under the system of Japanese, which is different from Chinese system, the translation of western Marxist terminology often occurred significant expansion, reduction, extension and even total variation, which’s out of the original word meaning space. So this translation restricted the correct using and understanding of Marxism. At the same time, these terms with Japan’s color had serious acquired immunodeficiency. Namely because of the limit of translation level, the advanced Chinese had imposed some unscientific factors to Marxism.We can reduce the historical context of Marxist terminology to trace the cause of the "typo" and make an accurate description of those terms which become difficult to change. So these will deepen our exact understanding of the behind meaning of the Marxist terminology.At the same time, the investigation of the "typo" can help us find the translation mechanism of Marxist terminology, prevent new "typo" and promote spread of Marxism in China.
