Research On Greek Social Welfare Policy Under The Background Of European Debt Crisis

Greece’s sovereign debt crisis opened a prelude to the European debt crisis in2009. European debt crisis shocks the world again, and increases uncertainty to theglobal economic which being under the influence of the financial crisis. Europeandebt crisis affects not only the global economy, finance, the discussion about theEuropean debt crisis but also caused a global discussion on the European economy,institutions, policies, mechanisms, especially the welfare system.On the basis of the European welfare state theory, this paper analyzed thechallenge of Greek social welfare policy before the crisis, the pressure that caused bydebt crisis and the changes after debt crisis with the European debt crisis as thebackground. Then we found that the Greek social welfare policy have tendency todevelopmental welfare which guided by the theory of “the third way”. This articlecompared the national economy, the welfare culture, the development of social welfareand the influence of the debt crisis between Greece, Sweden and Germany, so as todiscuss the relationship between social welfare and the debt crisis. Finally it isconcluded that social welfare is not the cause of the debt crisis. Final chaptersummarized the change of Greek social welfare policy, forecasted the developmenttendency of welfare policy in welfare states, and made enlightenment to build socialwelfare policy in the future for China, in order to avoid the tragedy of the debt crisis.
