On Dworkin 's Theory Of Resource Equality

Equality is a timeless topic of mankind,since ancient times,the exploration of equality has never stopped.Ronald Myles·Dworkin is not only a famous contemporary American philosopher but also a lawyer.The theory of equal resource that he put forward provides an idea and material to better study the equality.By the whole and systemic research,through the analysis and illustration of the theory,the theory of equal resource can provide a reference to solve the equal problem in building a harmonious socialist society in China,The first part of the paper briefly describes the background of the theory of equal resource. Any kind of ideas and theories has not come out of the blue,it can not be separated from the background of that time,at the same time,it must absorb the previous studies.Dworkin experienced the American turbulent society and responded the justice theory of Rawls,as a result,he structured his own unique equal theory.The second part of the paper systematically analyzes the content of the the theory of equal resource.Dworkin believes that Rawls’s justice theory dose not pay attention to personal responsibility,so the theory which he proposed includes the exploration of responsibility.Equality of resources firstly emphasizes that the government should express equal concern and respect to all citizens,and on the basis of ethical individualism,it must realize the targets:the destiny of man dose not depend on endowments but on their own ambitions.In order to more clearly illustrate how to achieve the two goals,Dworkin imagines a thought experimentlmaginary auction and Virtual insurance market.The third part is to give an objective evaluation to the theory of equal resource. The theory has its profound theoretical value.Dworkin thinks that equality is the sovereign virtue,which locates the equal to a higher and more important position. Equality of resources gives life positive meaning, strong sense of responsibility and mission. At the same time it provides a method of processing problems. However,there is also something insufficient in this theory. Equality of resources advocates the universal distributive justice,which is questionable to fit everyone.What’s more,the market is a perfectly competitive one, there is no practical significance. Equality of resources dose not distinguish the "choice" and "environment". By discovering its value and shortcomings, combining the theory with our country’s practice,we can get a new thought about better solving the problem of equality in our society.
