Germany takes a key strategic position in Europe continent, it will destabilize theinternational order whether it’s too weak or it’s too strong. After the unification ofGermany, it seems the rising of a regional hegemony in central Europe is inevitable,so all European statesmen have to face the problem: how to find a place for Germanywhile assure other European nations? The German politicians try to solve the GermanQuestion by starting two world wars, it turned out, this approach didn’t work. So afterthe WWII, German Leaders tried another approach, that is integration of Europe.During the cold war, the FRG finally get the equal political position by joining theNATO and taking part in the ECM. The New Oriental Policy also helps FRGpromoting its international status. All those steps lead to the re-unification ofGermany in1990. After Cold War, in order to reassure its neighboring nations, thenew Germany promise to accelerate the process of European integration. In factduring the following administration Germany gradually dominates decision process inthe EU.When Angela Merkel succeeded the chancellorship, she promised Germany willpush the EU political integration process further, during those days, the EU nationshave a closer relationship, the Europe Identity was accepted by more and more people. But more serious problems appear: lots of EU nations hesitate to push the politicalintegration process further; they also refuse to think recruit new membership for theEU. The Merkel administration has some success from its EU policy, but hernationalist principle implicates a dim future for EU political integration. Theintegration of EU was on a critical point, whether there will be any essentialimprovement in the future depends on the determinations of its member states. As the trend to multi-polarization become much clear, the EU surely will havegreater influence in the future, the special position of Germany in the EU means itsdecision will have great effects on the world. The EU policy of Germany seems at acrossroad, if the statesmen have no political will to push the integration process, thefurther integration of EU may cause disintegration economic and social crisis.
