Water quality monitoring, described as the'eye of water conservation', is the important foundation of water resources management and protection. Currently in China, there still exit some problems in water quality monitoring:shortage of automatic water quality monitoring stations and efficiency of the automatic monitoring; lacking of mobile water monitoring and analysis equipments and inadequate capacity of mobile monitoring as well as field monitoring. Moreover, most existing mobile water monitoring devices are large-size water quality monitoring ships or mobile monitoring vehicles, which are too large and expensive for promotion. The research objective of this paper is to design a low cost, small size and easily operated mobile water monitoring system which can be broad scale expanded.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) A analysis and summary of application situation and related technology of both domestic and international water monitoring system, which helps put forward the idea of using a mobile water quality system to make up for the limitation of the existing system.(2) Designed a remote mobile water monitoring system. The system uses unmanned remote control small ship as a carrier, equips with water quality testing module and works under control of intelligent remote terminal. A function of wireless location is added to control ship movement and distribution of sampling points more precisely.(3) Designed all components of the system, including the following aspects:mechanical, hardware and software design of the mini remote ship based on TMS320F28035; hardware and software design of both the remote terminal based on OMAP3530 and the anchor node based on STM32F103CB.(4) Finished the program of the function of wireless communication,wireless remote,location, and water detection and then do the system functional and performance testing.The results shows the system achieves the desired results.The main features or innovations of the paper are as follows:(1) The presentation of quick distance type water monitoring system. The system is based on a mini ship equipped with water quality testing module and provides functions of rapid positioning control and water quality testing in the way of wireless remote control. It is small, inexpensive, of low power consumption, portable, easily operated and practical. All the advantages mentioned above makes it perfect for water quality monitoring of various kinds of surface water.(2) Accurate ranging and positioning function of the system which makes it easier and more precise to control ship movement and distribution of sampling points.(3) Fast speed of online testing and the avoidance of using auxiliary chemical reagent which may causes secondary pollution.
