This thesis is based on the research of the protocol conversion module in the project of protocol conversion equipment which supports more VCGs and GFP encapsulation, and the main part is research on the software.Protocol conversion devices can change Ethernet signal or V.35 signal into E1 signal, then the El signal transports on SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) or PDH (Plesionchronous Digital Hierarchy) for long distance transmission. The reason for this signal conversion is to extend the Ethernet signal or V.35 signal transmission distance. So now protocol conversion equipments can be divided into E1/Ethernet series and E1/V.35 series. The protocol conversion device in this paper can change Ethernet signal into E1 signal, and the implementation of the device is based on SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) protocol and the EOP (Ethernet Over PDH, also referred to as EoPDH.)SNMP protocol is the most widely used network management in TCP/IP network, It maintains the normal operation of the network by some ways. SNMP can timely report and process when the network has something wrong, and it can coordinate, maintain the network systems running efficiently and so on.EOP is a set of technologies and standards used for transporting Ethernet signal on established PDH. Standardization of technology used in the EOP are:frame encapsulation, mapping, LCAS (Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme) protocol and virtual concatenation and so on.The implementation this paper is based on the VxWorks operating system, using self-developed FPGA chip, and using two management methods:mode of mib node and mode of serial. The serial model can be used for short-range management, while mib node mode can be used for remote management.
