Along with Internet development, routers, the core equipments of network, have already become the key technique of the current information industry. The realization of complicated Internet operations is dependent on the perfect router equipments with both hardware and software functions. Taking a wide view of network development, the traditional datagram processings only depend on the software to complete, and the processing ability is low. Oppositely, the ASIC processors that only depend on the hardware to complete have high processing ability, but bad flexibility. These lacks make them can't satisfy at the double network development requirements of high performance and high flexibility. So the network processor (NP) technique, as a new core network technique terrace, is brought up.Network processor is a programmable device. It can resolve the compromised problem between hardware acceleration and software flexibility better using special improved hardware units and programmable microengine cortrol environment. We can use NP establishing a multifunctional high-speed core network more simply and more conveniently.This thesis relates to the MPLS technique and the MPLS VPN technique application in the network processor, based on researching IXP2400 chip, which is a typical product of Intel Corporation. In the thesis, the micrcode realization methods on MPLS, MPLS L2VPN and MPLS L3VPN functions are introduced detailedly. Using these methods, we can establish a high-speed, stabile, flexible VPN network for business enterprises based on network processor, and make the network processor technique get the more extensive application.
