With the advent of new era in which a variety of functionality andcomplexity of automotive electronics are required by microcontroller aidedsystems, In-Vehicle networks became necessary for further development ofautomotive electronics. As the mark of next step in the history of automotiveelectronics development, In-Vehicle networks will greatly improveperformance of various car functions and communication and control betweenElectronic Control Units as well as the architecture of car design.First of all, the architecture of automotive networks was brieflyintroduced following several protocols of automotive control networkdiscussed in detail. Because of the new problems for the advanced automotivecontrol, several time-triggered protocols are also discussed and their featuresare analyzed and compared. As a low cost class A bus of SAE, LocalInterconnect Network is introduced with its protocol specification andapplication areas.LIN is SCI/UART based, single-master, multiple-slave single-wire serialcommunication protocol developed for interconnecting automotive smartsensors and actuators. Typical LIN application scenario is mentioned and LINmaster-slave communication demo module is designed and realized based onMotorola's 16bit microcontroller, after analysis of requirements for hardwareresources and porting of LIN low-level APIs for the hardware. As an important node on the automotive body control networks, wholedesign scheme of body controller is first introduced depending on therequirements of body control. Then hardware design of functional units suchas power, I/O, logic control, display and communication interface andnetwork activities of the controller are provided in detail.CAN-LIN gateway is also mentioned. For the interconnection of CANand LIN bus, CAN-LIN gateway running multitask for converting messageformat between CAN and LIN is designed based on μC/OS-II embeddedoperating system. Finally, embedded Web-based remote control and supervision system forCAN bus is provided, for the possibility of CAN and LIN applications in thenon-automotive areas.
