With the development of Internet and Mobile Communications, more and more kinds of wireless access technologies will be in use. And IP networks will gradually be the base of others. IPv6 is the core of next-generation Internet, and is expected to gradually replace existing protocol IPv4. With the development of IPv6 protocol, Mobile IPv6 protocol becomes the focus of mobile research. Mobile IPv6 protocol simplifies the implementation of mobile technology by directly assigning IP addresses to mobile IP equipments, resolves triangle router of IPv4 and high delay of switch and bad security, implements the demand that mobile equipments access Internet smoothly everywhere and at any moment essentially. At first, this paper presents the protocols and technologies of Mobile IPv6 and handover. Through analyzing fast handover and the demands in real-time transmission, this paper formulates several problems about fast handover of Mobile IPv6 such as higher packet loss and higher handover cost, which must be resolved. To handle these problems, this paper proposes an optimized fast handover scheme,.The Advanced Fast Handover is an improved handover method according to the Fast Handover. Advanced Fast Handover introduces a buffer in previous access router, and buffers the packets before the tunnel is established between PAR and NAR. Advanced Fast Handover has lower packet loss and handover cost than Fast Handover., especially to fast moving MN,At last the key performances such as handover latency, handover cost and buffer cost of Basic mobile IPv6 Handover, Fast Handover and Advanced Fast Handover are compared in this paper by network simulation. The conclusion is as follows. To the handover latency and handover cost aspect, Advanced Fast Handover has the best performance but Basic Handover performs worst. To the buffer cost aspect, the result is reverse. In conclusion, it is worth getting lower latency and cost in the expense of a little bit more buffer cost.
