With the development of computer science and network technology, information network based on the multimedia communication has become the focus all over the world. The advancement of audio compression technologies and real-time transport control technology makes it not difficult to transmit audio data in IP network any longer. IP phone has successfully entered into the telecommunication area. Relative to traditional telephone, the most advantage of VOIP is to make use of the Internet resources more sufficiently, and to provide much more higher quality service. In recent years, VOIP has developed from software product to multi-function terminal, and standards of it emerge in endlessly. The rapid progress of VOIP technology and services has made a deep affection to the traditional telephony service. How to setup one set of VOIP network architecture and to develop the VOIP terminal devices suitable for our country have been the exigent and valuable question. In this paper, the design and realization of IP phone based on ARM9, one of the VOIP projects of SHENZHEN EMBEST INFO&TECH CO., LTD, is discussed.This paper introduces an IP phone terminal based on ARM9 (S3C2410)microprocessor using SIP protocol. The thesis first introduces the development status and basic principles of IP telephone and its key technology, emphatically discusses voice compression algorithm; then expatiates the SIP and RTP/RTCP protocols, and based on them brings forward a detailed solution of IP phone based on SIP protocol, and further elaborates specific method and process of realization based on ARM9; In the last part summarizes this thesis, and makes a vista of prospect of IP phone.The whole thesis consists of six chapters. In the first chapter, the background and significance of topic selection are shown. In the second chapter, the foundation knowledge about IP phone is discussed, including the present status of VOIP, how IP phone works, key technology of IP phone, and especially introduces voice compression algorithm.In the third chapter, introduces protocols correlative to IP phone based on SIP, mainly discusses SIP and RTP/RTCP using in this system.In the fourth chapter, the composing structure of the solution to the topic is shown, including the selection of processor, operating system, voice interface, net interface, voice coding & decoding algorithm and communication protocols and so on.In the fifth chapter, specifically elaborates the design and realization of this system from the aspect of both hardware design and software programming.
