The structure of optical fiber cables always progresses with the development of optical fiber cable networks and operating environments. A new generation of complete optical fiber networks requires such optical fibre cables as those features in providing still wider band width, accommodating more wavelengths, transmitting at still higher rate, being convenient for erection and maintenance and of even longer service life. Different applications and different requirements create a tendency to development of multistructured optical fiber cables. New structure optical fiber cables as well as cables of various structures frequently modified on the basis of the existing ones are continuously coming into being. All this has put forwards correspondingly a new subject for study in the aspect of optical fiber cable construction.1) As to optical fiber cable structures, a specific selection shall be made of the optical fiber cable types in accordance with the operating network environment, for example, trunk network optical fiber cables, metropolitan area network optical fiber cables, access network optical fiber cables and local area network optical fiber cables, which determine the requirement for the transmission characteristics of optical fibers for optical fiber cables in a wide area.2) The appearance of new materials for optical fiber cables has promoted the improvement on the structure of optical fiber cables.
