AVS audio standard is the digital audio compress standard that our country owns the intellectual property. Because of the AVS audio standard, our country's digital audio industry can free off the restrict of expensive patent fee by the other countries.Currently, the popular audio decoders are mostly implemented based on DSP solution, RISC CPU solution or ASIC solution. Among them, the decoders implemented based on DSP solution or RISC CPU solution are more flexible and their time to market periods are more shorter than the one implemented based on ASIC solution, but these decoders consume too much power, they could not meet the power demand of the mobile terminals. However, the decoders implemented based on ASIC solution can slove the power problem, but they are not so flexible and their time to market periods are too long compared with the decoder implemented based on RSIC solution or DSP solution. As a result, we implement the AVS audio decoder by the hardware software co-design technology. The decoder which implemented by this technology includes a simple CPU core and several hardware modules. The CPU can process the control intensive tasks and the hardware modules can process the computational intensive tasks. The decoder based on hardware software co-design technology has some excellent charactstics, such as lower power consumption and higher flexibility.The main content of the thesis includes the following aspects:First, the thesis introduces and analyses the popular solutions for audio decoders. And based on the comparison result, the AVS audio decoder is designed and implemented using the hardware software co-design technology.Second, the thesis introduces and describes the basic principals and steps of the hardware software co-design technology.
