With the development of bandwidth network and streaming media technology, people need more individuated, varied and interactive media form than before. IPTV technology can combine computer, communication and TV together that IPTV users can receive broadcast and have smooth interaction with service providers. Also, IPTV technology makes it easy to enjoy radio programs service, Internet browsing service, E-mail dispatch service and various other kinds of online services, such as information consultation, amusement, education and commercial affairs. IPTV is a subversive technology, and will bring a revolution to telecom world.IPTV Storage System provides the most important technologic support for wide application of IPTV. The purpose of the study on IPTV Storage System is to obtain reliable and effective storage of IPTV mass media information. Advanced Telecom Computing Achitechure (ATCA) is an effective approach to solve this problem. With certain configurations of hardware and software, the performance indexes of IPTV Storage System have two aspects: One is the maximum number of stream IPTV Storage Server can support; the other is the CPU usage in the IPTV Storage Server. The research of this dissertation focused on how to improve the storage I/O performance in IPTV Storage Server. The author has done some work, such as building up the hardware and software platform, modeling, performance analysis and tuning.Firstly, this paper introduced the development of IPTV, ATCA and Storage technology. Secondly, it introduced the design and implement of IPTV Storage System based on ATCA in detail, including hardware and software platform. Finally, the author has done the performance analysis of IPTV Storage System based on ATCA through modeling and test methods, and also invented a new readahead mechanism —"Intelligent Readahead Mechanism" to improve the storage I/O performance of IPTV Storage Server.The testing results show that "Intelligent Readahead Mechanism" can greatly improve the storage I/O performance of IPTV Storage Server and will be a reference of implementing the reliable and effective storage system for IPTV.
