ABSTRACT:With the rapid development of Internet technology and equipment, the requirement of network management and hardware structure is getting higher and higher.As a bus interface standard,CPCI (Compact PCI) was put forward by PICMG in1994. The next generation of fusion communication and data network equipment adopted cost-effective ATCA standard as the CPCI can’t satisfied the needs of the development in terms of bandwidth, performance and capacity. Network equipment needs network management module as the network management module occupies an important position in network devices, but the traditional centralized network management architecture has major defects in the extensibility and scalability and administrative. So the research on ATCA architecture of network management technology become the most meaningful and urgent task.Board communication protocol plays a very important role in network management system which needs dynamic and efficient work.This paper mainly research and design network communication protocol among boards network management module, the purpose is to meet the requirements for network management system architecture of the next generation Internet equipment. After studying the ATCA hardware platform, network management system and the related knowledge,we Put forward a overall structure of inter-board communication protocol which is implemented and tested on the gateway platform.Firstly, after studying the relevant standard of network management protocol, and analyzing the structure and hierarchy of the network management system, we design a overall structure of inter-board communication protocol; Then after comparing and analying several popular network management protocol, we choose to design the AgentX and SNMP communications protocol. Finally, we implete and test our design under the ATCA platform. The experimental results shows that:The design of communication protocol based on AgentX architecture can solve the defect,and its high performance and support for dynamic expansion in the transmission and the realization of low overhead during the process shows that the design meets the demands for network management system architecture of next generation Internet equipment.
