Embedded system is application-centred and it's becoming one of the most important computer technique. The hardware and software of embedded system can be reduced and the system must be high performance, reliable, low price, small type and so on.The Intel Corporation published the first micro-processor named 4004 in the history. With fast development of the chip technique, embedded system including hardware and software becomes a powerful computer system.Almost all related companies published more and more micro-processors with their own features to seize the market, such as PowerPC, ARM, and MIPS. The Blackfin processor which is published by the ADI Corporation does more powerful in multimedia processing. And the price of Blackfin processor is much cheaper. It has very bright future in the commercial embedded system, especially in the consumer electronics area.Many engineers begin to design and implement software applications based on Blackfin processor in these years. Embedded system based on blackfin processor is still in the initial stage. However, it is designed for some special usages, develop boards and peripheral devices changed very often for different requirements. So the software platform needs to be specified too. The embedded system platform in this paper is based on BF531 processor and the devices used on the board are designed for multimedia processing applications. How to design and implement a software platform under this hardware environment is one of the key point.The implementation of this embedded system platform including two sections: the hardware system design based on BF531 and the implementation of the software platform. There are two parts in software section: design a Boot Loader, implemement device driver file system and GUI under uClinux.The implementation of this embedded system platform has more meaning with the application developing on Blackfin processor.
