With the rapid development and the pervasive applications of network, a large variety of devices and software components are being connected continuously into network .The complexity of network use and maintenance becomes more and more great. It is expected that the services provided by these devices and software components can be used without being configured, installed and intervened by people in such a simply way as pnp once they plug into network. To solve this problem, Jini comes out. It supports dynamic registration, discovery and invocation. On the other hand, the popularization of Internet provides a powerful market force to streaming media business. The streaming media technology has been widely used in all aspects of network information services; it has become a new media with strong attraction. This thesis does analyzing and research works. There are three main parts in this thesis: introducing Jini technology, studying the application of Java media framework, designing and realization a streaming media system based on Jini and JMF. The main works has been listed as follows.1 Analyses the structure and the core technologies of Jini, studies the operating mechanism and realization of Jini, compares Jini with other distributed systems, analyzes theirs advantages and disadvantages. Finally, offer a typical structure based on Jini system.2 Introduces technique related to streaming media; Studies Java Media Framework, mainly includes JMF structure and module, the main function of JMF, the JMF expansion, JMF RTP and so on, and then offers a method and steps to realize the transmission and broadcast by JMF3 Introduces Jini and JMF to streaming media system, then a zero-configuration, adaptive, cross-platform and distributed dynamic streaming media system are designed. The realization of this streaming media system is worthy for further study in Jini technique for practical use.4 In the last part of this thesis, the research direction and foreground of the Jini and JMF technique are listed.
