Research On Metaphor Elements Of Web Interface Design

This thesis focuses on how to conduct web interface design of originality via concept and method of metaphor. The purpose is to search good, new and effective concept of interface design, and to solve the problems of processing interface design. Firstly the thesis defines the concept of metaphor in web design. It says that metaphor is not only a kind of visual language but also an important visual design thought. And it is the basic thought of our creation. The thesis concludes metaphor's three features: concept similarity, experience similarity and acknowledgement. The features are the basic of our comprehending of metaphor design and the basic thought of creative design. And the features make metaphor as a powerfully functional and effective creative thought.How to apply metaphor to interface design? The author systemically analyzes and appraises on some web interfaces characterized with metaphor. We use systemic thought, TRIZ theory and morphological analysis to design and make Guangdong province 151 Project, construction art study website's interface metaphor system. By analyzing the result of cases questionnaire and having the design experience of interface metaphor system, the author concludes two important design's theory. They are interface metaphor system based on emotion and interface metaphor system based on originality. Whatever what kinds of metaphor, a good metaphor design, not only need good visual effect, the more important is that it can meet users' various requirements, and solve the problems while occurred in the using of interface. It also brings joy to the users.The thesis also discusses some difficulties when using metaphor, such as difficulties on understanding and acknowledging, that will make the interface complicate and reduce readability of interface. Therefore, we need combine the elements of function, construction, concept and visual form to consider and determine the use of metaphor. If we can find suitable metaphor then try to do it. However, we should not constrain the interface design to meet any metaphor.
