Multimedia Information Processing System Based On Xscale

With the rapid development of computer and multimedia technology, embedded system applications have involved household appliances, network equipment, mobile communications equipment, and industrial control and other fields. However, the massive digital multimedia video information has brought big challenge to the embedded system which resource is limited, so the research of Multimedia information processing terminal has become one of the advanced fields of embedded system design research.In this paper, we develop a multimedia information processing terminal based on Xscale processor provided good network function, considering the characteristics and reality of the embedded system application needs.This paper is structured into the hardware design and software platform designed in two parts. Firstly, we make a brief description of embedded system, embedded operating system and Xscale processor, then introduce the overall system architecture design of the hardware platform, also make a detailed analysis to power, memory, serial port, LCD, the Internet and other modules designed. Software design part departs into two parts, OS software and application software. In this part, we mainly introduce the reduction and porting of embedded Linux OS, including establishment of cross-compiler environment, configuration and compiling of embedded Linux kernel, creation of root file system, we implement a suit of embedded Linux OS suited to our system which footprint is small. In the part of application software development, we introduce the GUI development based on Qt/Embedded, the application of MPlayer in the syetem and IPv6 network access. Finally there is a summary of the full text and the future prospects of embedded multimedia information processing terminal.
