With the rapid development of mobile communications, many organizations for standardization and countries are concentrating on the research of standards and technologies of 3G (3rd Generation Mobile Communications). Meanwhile, 3G networks have been launched and providing commercial services in Japan, Korea, Europe and USA. And the TD-SCDMA newwork built by CMCC is going to be used soon.It is preponderant that more band-wide, faster speed, more powerful capability and richer display can be provided in 3G systems than that in 2G networks. Based on these technology advantages, plenty of services and applications with individuation and diversity can be provided to the subscribers by 3G networks, which will bring brand-new mobile life style and exciting enjoying experience. All of these have become the source of attraction to the subscribers with 3G networks and services.From the carrier's perspective, service capability and service content are considered to be the key concerns for sticking the existing customers and also attracting new ones. For 3G network, while multimedia content is widely accepted to be the dominating traffic conveyed by the network, multimedia based applications and services will be considered to be the most valuable ones in the industry.Based on 3G network and the MRF (Multimedia Resource Function) definded in IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) and the MS (Media Server) defined in Softswitch network, this paper proposes the definition of EBMRF (Eastcom-bupt MRF). It is the core eneity of NCSP (Next Core Service Platform) which is researched and implemented by State key Laboratory of Networking and Switching Technology of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Eastcom-bupt information technology co., ltd. The NCSP platform could provide the integral solution for multimedia value-added services in NGN, it has two function entities, which are EBAS (Eastcom-bupt Application Server) and EBMRF. The EBAS takes charge of the service logic. The EBMRF supplies SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) control interface and El/IP bear interface.With control of EBAS, it could exchange multimedia stream with the media gateway or user terminal in 3G R4/R99/IMS and Softswitch networks. The EBMRF has three function entitys, which are MRFC (Multimedia Resource Function Controller), MRFP (Multimedia Resource Function Processor) and MRFM (Multimedia Resource Function Manager). The MRFP is the key part in this paper.Chapter one introduces the development course of 3G, the layered architecture, function entity and network interface of IMS network, and the architecture of MRF, then carries out the design scheme of MRFP 1.4 in EBMRF, and proposes the disadvantages of this design.. Chapter two brings forward the definition of common architecher of MRFP which improves all the disadvantages talked before, along with the particular design and key points in implementation of the common architecture of MRFP. Based on comparison, chapter three concludes that the common architecture of MRFP not only reduces the codes of the system, but also plays down the difficulty and workload of system maintenance and development in the future. Chapter four makes a conclusion and points out the current progress and future plan of MRFP development.
