WiMAX Business Model Analysis

The developing of WiMAX has seized the headlines of entrepreneurs, governors and specialists to such an extent in the past few years. Telecom market are mature and fully competition, operators are looking for new opportunity to generate revenue to make sure company survival, WiMAX seems as good chance for operators to catch new market and revenue due to its advance performance and multiple services.On Oct. 19th, 2007, the Internation Telecome Union(ITU) approved WiMAX as the 3G standard of IMT-2000 group, which means that WiMAX will be the 4th 3G standard as well as WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA. Deploying WiMAX networks will be more convenient for operators. However, how to operate the WiMAX network and what is the business model for it, which needs us to research.This thesis tries to use management knowledge to compare the WiMAX technology with the traditional communication technology, and research the business model of telecom companies. The thesis analyzes the common and different points, and gives suggestions of WiMAX business model for telecom operators.This thesis adopts information/data collection methods to collect data, analyzes the data by using process of growth curve, SWOT, PEST and Boston Matrix methods. By cases analysis methods, comparing the operation modes of international telecom networks, getting the conclusion: WiMAX's killer application is that it can help you visit your digital world anywhere anytime. WiMAX makes the internet can be taken along with you. WiMAX's some functions are same as the other 3G networks, but WiMAX is not the substitute of 3G. WiMAX is the supplement of 3G, which can be used for different services and provides total wireless broadband access solution.
