Analysis And Design Of Printer Driver Under Windows XP Platform

Device driver is the bridge connects the operating system and the device. It's the core program of the operating system which not only takes part in the operating system's kernel operations directly but also has a close relationship with the device and influences the device's work efficiency directly. It's very important for a device's application and popularity whether it have an appropriate device driver.Printer is one of the common peripheral equipment of computer. With the development of OA(Office Automation), Printer has an abroad application and development. Presently, most of the print requests are based upon windows operating system because of which has been the mainstream operating system. Printer driver as the bridge connects operating system and printer has some new requests and change with the development of operating system and printer device, and user request's changing. Considering this reasons, it have an important realistic meaning for developing printer driver under Windows platform.In this thesis, the design of printer driver under Windows XP platform is studied. With the invoking flow chart that completing a print job in Windows OS as a clew, modules related to are introduced. The architecture and working principle of the function modules which make up of Windows XP's print system and Windows XP's printer driver system are analysed. Particularly, the design of printer interface DLL, printer graphics DLL, and printer port monitors are studied. And the development environment, developing methods, and the installation of the printer driver are also discussed. According to the practical applications of the asphalt puddler, the character handling of printer driver is studied. The design of a printer driver applies in asphalt puddler is also given. And the printer driver has been successfully applied in many asphalt puddlers.
