Applied Research And Implementation Of Campus Network Monitoring System Based On Cacti

With the wide application of the network, the network monitoring system is playing an important role in maintenance of network security. It is not only helping the network manager to learn the status of network, but also looking out malfunction of network and keeping the network running smoothly. However , with the rapid development of information technology,the extent of network is becoming bigger than ever before, the architecture of it is becoming more perplexed, and the security situation is extremely serious. The existence of these factors has increased the R&D costs of the network's monitoring system. Open source network monitoring software is popular with network managers,because of its open-source and rich resources.This paper is based on campus network, and gives a method of building network monitoring system through Cacti which is open source software. The network monitoring system is well suited to the requirement of campus by secondary development. The research work analyses Cacti construction principle,workflow as well as expansion ways,and based which to enrich the Cacti warning ways, increase the SMS,email and the sound ways. The system has perfected Cacti data storage ways by saving data in relational database. This paper gives a scheme to keep sight of building patch room's environment parameter. We can draw a network weather map by which to learn the whole network flow state.The system collects dates through SNMP protocol, draws network weather map by using Cacti-Plugin-Arc. Also the system achieves AgentX agent through NET-SNMP development packet ,and can effectively monitor network devices which do not support SNMP protocol. The system realizes SMS alert function by using Fetion Robot.This system based on open source network monitoring software Cacti, it is working well on campus network. This method does not only save the development cost, but also reduced the software development cycle. It provides a solution basing on open source to develop campus networking monitoring system.
