Material Handling (MH) refers to a series of related equipment or devices used in a process or system, where materials are reasonably moved, stored and controlled. Materials, operations, mobile devices and handling units, mobile path on the combination constitutes a material handling system (MHS). Large-scale material handling system comprises varieties of materials, where mobile path is complex and management of scheduling is very difficult. So research on the design of large-scale material handling system and management methods, rational allocation of operating personnel, moving equipment and mobile units, shortening the transport time and reducing transport costs, have important practical significance and value.Under the background of research on the integrated design method of food supply material handling system, the paper discusses integrated design method of material handling system. In this paper ordering strategy, arriving allocation strategy and transit strategy used by material handling system is described in detail. Using principle of the largest flow, the network flow chart of material handling system is analyzed. Then the minimum level set of the arc and the capacity is found; the type and operating parameter of handling equipment and the staffing situation is adjusted; the formula of estimating of handling time is given. At last, the paper discusses the design and implementation of handling scheduling management information system (HSMIS) and proposes the development scheme of HSMIS. According to requirements of HSMIS, after I fulfill the functions and database design, I give the implementation process of the key module. The integrated design method of large-scale material handling system proposed by this paper is important to increase handling efficiency, reduce the risk of errors, reduce labor intensity of management people and improve the scientific nature of the decision-making. This paper can be used for reference in similar material handling system design.
