With modernization of port, crane plays a more and more important part in port. Besides technology of loading and unloading, one of the chief influencing factors that influence the efficiency and economic benefits to the port is crane. The cost of crane is 40 to 50 percent of total cost of handling machine. The efficiency of port handling has great depends on the technological state of handling machine already. At present, the main management way of handling machine is labor management and the application of computer is not widespread. So the research of management of handling machine is profound.Strengthening management of handling machine plays an important part in trouble-free operation and enhancing efficiency of port. The aim of modern equipment management of port is that realize efficient management and maximum potential of handling machine. But, at present, the application of computer in port is stay in machine account stage, the idea of design management software is conservative, many parts such as localization information, operation state, spatial distribution are not include in computer management. At the same time, the evaluation of equipment management of handler has no systemic criterion and it cannot encourage the handlerThis thesis combines the management characteristic of handling machine with specialty of GIS to realize management information system of container handling machinery based on GIS. The system can make the information of handling machine display in a map and can bring forward an evaluation of equipment management.This thesis has four parts.Firstly, this paper discusses the basic situation of GIS and equipment management.Secondly, the paper uses Maplnfo to make a map of container port of Ri-zhao.Thirdly, the paper analyzes the index system of evaluation of equipment management and adopts Fuzzy hierarchy methods to realize the evaluation system of equipment management.Finally, the paper adopts the handling machine as study subject and uses MapX and VB to develop some functions of GIS.
