The Research And Implementation Of EPON Network Management System

EPON (Ethernet over Passive Optical Network) is one new solution for optical fiber access network. It has a Point-to-Multipoint Architecture and provides Multi-Service basing on Ethernet. It combines the advantage of PON technology and Ethernet technology. With its feature of high bandwidth, low cost and being used and updated easily, EPON is the best solution for access network.It is very important to provide an effective network management system for EPON to assure more stable, effective and orderly servicing. According to the characters of EPON, one network management solution basing on SNMP is given. This network management system includes the management client and the agent client.This article focuses on the design and implementation of EPON network management system, and the main contents are as follows:(1) Introduce the structure of EPON; depict the demand of network management.(2) Do detailed introduction and discussion of SNMP; provide one SNMP programming solution by using SNMP++.(3) Design the EMS with the function of configuration management, performance management, fault management and security management, and give the way for implementation.(4) At the end of this thesis, we research into how to develop a SNMP Agent by net-snmp toolkit.
