With the development of computer technology and bus technology, commpuer peripherals of the same kind always have different interfaces and bring application developer more choices. Meanwhile, it brings out a new request that the system should be different interfaces compatible. Some lower speed devices are replaced by high speed devices and it meets a big problem when devices of old system go wrong. New request of field bus in modern application asks for updateing of the old system. Virtual device system is a perfect solution for this kind of problem. Vitual device system is used to make conversion between two interface and.New device have the same interface to user application as the old device and the old applcaition software system needs no updating.Then there is another research hot point that how to building a useful virtual device system effectively.First the paper explained what a virtual device system is , analyzed the polpular architecture used by virtual device system. With this the paper pointed out that hierarchical model is useful to this kind of system and listed serval rules for virtual device hierarchical system.Based on the rules,a Four Layer Architecture was brountg out by the author, To prove the model, a virual serial port system was implemented and tested.The contribution and innovation of this paper are as shown below:4) Listed serval guide rules for virtual device system.5) Brought out a Four Layer Architecture that is useful for virual device system deign.6) Designed and implemented a virtual serial port system the is useful and has the market value.
