Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) is a kind of multicarrier digital modulation which can increase the spectrum efficiency effectively. Because of the advantage of the high robustness to muti-path effect and frequency selective fading and the simplicity of hardware realization using FFT/IFFT, OFDM will be one of the core technologies of future telecommunication system. With the widespread deployment of the telecommunication system across the world, different application bandwidth and spectrum limitation in different countries should be considered in the telecommunication standard; therefore the future OFDM system should have scalable bandwidth. The dominant standards such as LTE and WiMax take the bandwidth scalability as their mandatory element. Based on the application demand and the technology trend, an OFDM system with scalable bandwidth is designed and realized in this paper.Start from the basic principles of OFDM, an OFDM transceiver with scalable bandwidth is designed. Then, the hardware realization for the baseband part and the analog/RF part is made. Finally, the whole hardware test platform is designed and the system test is made. Through the plentiful hardware tests, the Base-22 Single-path Delay Feedback pipeline variable-point FFT processer and the optimized synchronization module achieve good performance and the design solution for the whole OFDM system with scalable bandwidth is feasible.
